Hallmarking
In the UK the sale of articles made from precious metals is governed by the Hallmarking Act of 1973.

Hallmarks are sets of marks that show the Sponsor (or maker), the purity of the metal, the Assay office mark and a date mark. All hallmarked pieces are tested by the assay office to prove the precious metal purity.

All silver items over 7.78 grams must carry a hallmark to be legally sold as silver and has to be sold as white metal.

I have a sponsors mark registered with Goldsmiths of London, The London Assay Office and many of my pieces are hall marked, even when under the legal weight, so you can be assured that you are getting genuine Silver, it will say in the description when a piece is Hallmarked.

Hallmarking individual items works out quite expensive so I tend to send off batches to be hallmarked. If you require a piece to be hallmarked that isn't already marked you may have to wait until I have a batch ready or you may pay separately for this service (POA).
